Books are a man's best friend, they shape our future, give us a vision and help us progress. Not only this, they also give us knowledge, help preserve our culture and language. But this can only be possible if good quality books are easily available to us at affordable prices and most importantly
if we have reading habit.
After Independence, architects of our nation like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr S Radhakrishnan, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad among others being avid readers and writers themselves understood the significance of books. Thus, they formed the National Book Trust, India, an apex body under the ministry of human resource development, Government of India in the year 1957 to promote books and reading culture in our country.
Realising the growing needs of readers of remote and disturbed areas of the country, NBT has taken up the task of organising book fairs in such areas to spread the message of harmony and accomplish its mandate to encourage culture of reading among the masses.
