With UPA candidate Pranab Mukherjee virtually set to become the 14th President of India, the drama surrounding his candidature and his winnability took many twists and turns.

The Election Commission today rejected Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's vote in the Presidential poll and directed the Returning Officer not to count it as the secrecy of the ballot had been violated.

Pranab Mukherjee was today elected the next President trouncing PA Sangma by a huge margin to embark on a new journey capping over four decades of active political innings.In a virtually one-side election that saw divisions in the opposition NDA, the 76-year-old UPA nominee Mukherjee secured a vote value of 7,13,763, garnering 69.3% of the total 10,29,750 valid votes polled.
