Debt-laden Kingfisher Airlines (KFA) has applied for renewal of its operating licence with the aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The airline, which submitted the application three days ago, did not however submit its crucial financial and operational
revival plan. DGCA sources said no action would be taken on the application for renewal of the Scheduled Operator’s Permit (SoP) until the airline submitted a revival plan.

In normal circumstances, an SoP can be renewed for five years at one go. But in case of Kingfisher whose licence has been suspended, it can be done only after submission of a comprehensive financial plan.

KFA sources insisted the airline was in no danger of losing its operating license as government rules allow an airline with a licence that has expired within the preceding two years to fly if it can prove it is ready, by having the old licence renewed.
