The Ministry of Civil Aviation has cleared a proposal from low-cost carrier SpiceJet to induct six new members on the airline’s board.
Media baron Kalanithi Maran’s Kal Airways acquired 38 per cent in SpiceJet last month and has made an open offer to buy another 20 per cent.
“We
have cleared their proposal. Since all the six members are already on the board of Sun Network and have security clearance from the home ministry we have no objection ,” an official said.
The new board members are Maran, Kavery Kalanithi Maran, M.K. Harinarayanan, J. Ravindran, S. Sridharan and Nicholas Martin Paul. Kalanithi is likely to be the company’s new chairman and managing director.
As per rules, the company cannot have more than 12 board members. This means that some of the present board members might be replaced.
Another proposal to change the company’s name to Sun Airways will be cleared soon, sources said.
