Dell, the world's number two computer manufacturer, feels that low computer penetration in India is a big business opportunity, and expects to garner $2 billion (Rs 9,000 crore) annual revenues from here. "We see a tremendous opportunity for growth of the PC (personal computer) segment in
this country as penetration level is just 20-30 PCs per 1,000 people," said Michael Dell, CEO of Dell.

He added that the company is close to earning annual revenues of $2 billion from India. Dell, however, did not divulge the time frame when the company would achieve the said revenue target.

Dell's global revenues for the calendar year 2010 stood at $61.49 billion and revenues from India grew by around 37%.

The company is focussing on three key areas for its growth in India that include the traditional hardware business, its entry into education and healthcare segment for production of customised products & services and managing servicing offerings sold in India.

Dell, at present, employs close to 23,000 employees in India and plans to add a few thousand more over the next year, said Dell.
