It was a job well done by pistol shooter Anisa Sayyed, who clinched gold on Tuesday, pairing Rahi Sarnobat. But even as she was shooting at the Karni Singh Ranges, she had to ward off thoughts that she had had to resign from her position in the Railways.
“I quit the Railways a month back
after they refused to entertain my application for a transfer from Pune to Delhi. After I got married, I'd been trying for more than two years to get a transfer from the Western Railways’ office in Mumbai to Delhi, but they said I couldn't do that for at least 10 years,” said Anisa after winning gold.
“I'm very happy with my achievement today but somewhat disappointed that despite bringing glory to the Railways, they did not recognise my feat. Finally, the company where my husband works gave me a sponsorship deal and I am grateful to them,” she said. “Let's hope I get some good offers now.”
“I was overcome by emotion when my former colleagues in the Railways called and congratulated me…It's not that the organisation is bad. The Railways is a great organisation for women. But they should streamline the transfer process for sportspersons," she said.
