The last two to three years have seen the launch of multiple appstores in India, including those of Kindle, Google Play and Apple’s App Store, which allow patrons to purchase apps in Indian rupees as well as encouraging local developers to sell their ideas to them. But there is more competition
If news reports are to be believed, the Amazon’s Appstore for Android will now be extended to nearly 200 countries, including India, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, South Africa and South Korea among others. It is currently available only in seven countries, USA, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Japan.
The Amazon store works pretty much on the same line as other appstores, offering paid and free games, utilities, but also has a separate space for apps compatible with Kindle. You can also purchase vouchers and gift apps.
And as a build-up to their foray into India, the company has started accepting submissions of apps from local developers. Interested developers can submit apps by registering for a new account at the Amazon Mobile App Distribution Portal and paying an annual development fee of $99 (approx R5,334). Developers can sell both free and paid apps on the Appstore. “These apps will be made available in the coming months when the Amazon Appstore for Android launches internationally for consumers,” reads the statement issued by Amazon.
