Danny Boyle wins best director at Golden Globes

British film-maker Danny Boyle won the best director award at the Golden Globes here on Sunday for his work on the acclaimed drama Slumdog Millionaire. Boyle, 52, is expected to be among the favorites at next month's Oscars following the success of the film, which tells the story
of a boy's rise from Mumbai's slums to the brink of fortune on an Indian television game show.

It was the third award of the night for Slumdog Millionaire after wins in the screenplay and music categories.

Sunday's award was a first Golden Globe for Boyle, who is best known for his cult 1996 movie Trainspotting, The Beach and 28 Days Later.

Other nominees included Stephen Daldry (The Reader), David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Ron Howard (Frost/Nixon) and Sam Mendes (Revolutionary Road.)
