Democrat Barack Obama's presidential campaign has formed an Asian American Finance Committee that includes several people of Indian origin to raise funds for the senator and the party. “We look forward to doing everything we can to elect Senator Obama in November,” national co-chair and
tech pioneer Vinod Khosla said.

The other national co-chairs of Indian descent are banker Romita Shetty of New York; businessman Swadesh Chatterjee of Cary, North Carolina; and Mahinder Tak, a doctor living in Bethesda. Shetty's husband Nasser Ahmad, who is from Pakistan, is also a co-chair.

Star lawyer Preeta Bansal of New York is national co-chair and senior policy adviser.

Grassroots co-chairs include attorneys Hrishi Karthikeyan, Dave Kumar and Reshma Saujani. Karthikeyan is a co-ounder of South Asians for Obama.

Some of those named to the committee were supporters of Hillary Clinton.

Obama, who has been hugely successful at fund-raising, has opted out of the public financing system.
