The Andhra Pradesh government has ordered a probe into the allegation of a young woman that the kidney she donated to save her father, suffering from renal failure, was "given away to someone else" at the government-run Osmania General Hospital and another kidney, possibly from a dead man, was
implanted on her father, which failed within three days.

M Radhika, 21, said she donated a kidney on June 11 to help her father M Venkateswarlu, 40, who was suffering from kidney failure for years. Venkateswarlu was admitted to the city hospital three months back. Radhika was chosen as the donor after elaborate tests. The transplant surgery was done on June 11 but soon after, Venkateswarlu developed complications and the doctors informed him that the kidney had failed.

Hospital superintendent Girish Narayan said complications develop in one per cent of patients who undergo transplantation and compatibility had nothing to do with it. He said the hospital was exploring the possibility of a second transplantation for Venkateswarlu. Till then, he will be provided dialysis for free.
