Ever wondered how much people must have shelled out for dirtying the city? The fine amount is over Rs. 6 crore under the Clean Up campaign of the civic body, reveal the auditors of the campaign.
The campaign was launched in November 2007 and has seen some of Asia's costliest addresses
like Colaba, Cuffe Parade and Churchgate having the highest number of offenders with nearly 21,000 people being fined.
On the other hand, the area near Masjid Bunder (B ward) has only 1,500 offenders.
In all, over two lakh people have been fined for spitting, littering and for other nuisances in public spaces. However, the BMC officials clarified that the lesser number of cases do not make the ward the cleanest one.
“There are a less marshals in some areas so the number of cases varies,” said the Head Supervisor of Solid Waste Management BR Beldar.
Clean Up Campaign was the civic body’s initiative to keep the financial and commercial capital of the country clean.
The fine amount varies from Rs. 100 to Rs. 20,000 depending on the gravity of the offence.
