Underworld Don Abu Salem was produced by Mumbai ATS team in the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in connection with a fake passport case on Wednesday.
However, the court in the absence of the original documents of the case put off the hearing to April 24.
Salem was
produced before the CJM, MP Tiwari in the morning following issuance of production warrant against him by the court.
The original documents of the case were submitted in the Madhya Pradesh High Court where the state government has filed a revision on the acquittal of actress and former companion of Salem, Monica Bedi by the CJM and also the District Judge courts in 2007.
The CJM said that after every hearing, letter has been sent to the High Court Registrar, Anil Sharma to send the original documents by disposing off the revision petition, but till date nothing has happened.
When Salem’s advocate P C Vedi and Jitendra Soni told the court that in Hyderabad also trial in the case was being held on the basis of photocopies of the original documents as Monica was acquitted in a similar case there too and the state government has filed a revision in the High Court, the CJM said he was not concerned with what was happening in that city.
Trial will be conducted on the basis of original documents only, the CJM said.
