A 12-year-old boy performed funeral rites and lighted the pyres of 10 Kureris at Konharaghat in Rajapakar district on Wednesday. The 10 were lynched by a mob suspecting them of being thieves. After post-mortem examination by a team of three doctors, the bodies were sent to Konharaghat.

The boy Vikranta and two women of the Kureri tribe accompanied the bodies along with a few policemen.

Vikranta was among those who lost their kin in the ghastly incident. His father Sulten and uncle Multen had been beaten to death by the mob.

The Hajipur police asked Sulten’s son to light all the pyres, in the presence of district welfare officer and a few policemen.

After performing the last rites, Vikranta said: “Saab hamar baap chor nahi tha. Wo log bhoj khane gaye the aur mar diya unko.”
