Hollywood heartthrob Johnny Depp has recorded a guitar part for a new charity record in aid of the earthquake stricken Haiti. The actor who has been voted the 'Sexiest Man Alive' twice is the
star turn on former Pogues frontman Shane McGowan's alternative Haiti record with proceeds going to charity Concern Worldwide, reported Daily Mail online.

The song is a cover of Screamin' Jay Hawkins 1956 hit I Put A Spell On You. The 46-year-old Pirates Of The Caribbean star recorded his guitar part today in America.

The star took up the guitar when he was 12 and was soon playing in garage bands. When he initially moved to Los Angeles, it was as a member of a band called 'The Kids'. But they split before signing a record deal and Depp was eventually introduced to Nicolas Cage who advised him to become an actor instead.

Nevertheless, he has continued to adore rock music – and even based his Pirates Of the Caribbean character Jack Sparrow on Rolling Stone Keith Richards, one of the most famous guitarists of all time.

Other stars who are appearing on the record include Nick Cave, Primal Scream singer Bobby Gillespie, former Sex Pistol Glen Matlock, Pretenders star Chrissie Hynde, ex-Clash guitarist Mick Jones and Paloma Faith.

McGowan's charity record is an alternative to Simon Cowell's pop record Helping Haiti, which is currently at No1 in the UK charts.
