Four persons including two police officials were killed and two policemen were injured in a firing by Naxalites in Bijapur district on Saturday, police said. The Naxalites indiscriminately fired at the labourers engaged in the road development work killing two labourers and also two
senior police officials, Pawan Dev, Director General of Police told PTI.

The injured policemen were rushed to the nearby hospital, police said. In retaliation police also fired on the Naxalites, however, no one was injured as they managed to fled from the scene, Dev said.

The Naxalites were opposing the ongoing road work in Salmeta village, as roads would deter them from laying landmines on hardened surface, he said.

Additional police force rushed to the site and the injured were taken to the hospital, police added.
