Three policemen were killed when the Maoists attacked Golapalli police station in Dantewada on Wednesday, about 450 km south of Raipur. The Bastar inspector general of police T J Longkumer told Hindustan Times that one head constable and two constables who ventured out of
Golapalli thana to visit a nearby local market were surrounded by the rebels and shot dead.

“Since the market place was close to the police station, the Maoists also fired upon the police station to prevent any rescue team from reaching the incident site. The cops were equally wary about any possible ambush planted by the rebels as booby trap”, said the IGP.

Longkumer however did not confirm about any police personnel getting injured in the attack. Meanwhile the forces in the district were put on high alert following the attack.
