Speaking on the preparedness of the police to deal with terror, police commissioner Dr Satyapal Singh on Sunday said the CCTV surveillance system will be in place in the next two months.   The project has been delayed, but “now the problem has been solved, and we should have
the cameras installed in the next two months”, he said.

Listing the progress the police have made in equipping themselves to fight terror, Singh said the government has sanctioned 60,000 additional personnel for the state to deal with the staff crunch, a sizeable chunk of whom will join the Mumbai police force.

He clarified that there is no specific input of threat to the city, especially from the Taliban, but India faces the threat of terror. Since the past week, the police have been on alert and are keeping tabs on vehicle and SIM card dealers, he said.

Singh said the police have started special intelligence-gathering cells at all police stations since 45 days.

He said there are 24-hour first response teams to respond to a terror attack. He also admitted that the coastal police needs further upgradation.

“In all, I won’t say it’s a perfect system, but I will say we are improving daily,” Singh said.
