Benazir Bhutto has been murdered, shot by a suicide bomber who fired at her vehicle before blowing himself up. Bhutto was leaving after addressing an election rally in Rawalpindi. At least 20 people were killed and several more injured in the blast. The former Pakistani prime minister may have
had dark foreboding about her death when she said in London before returning to her country in October that there are "people who want to kill me".
Undoubtedly, Pakistan is in trouble. Bhutto's murder has driven home one single point: Pakistan has fallen off the edge. Her death not only signifies how deeply mired in violence Pakistani politics is, but it also points to the total change in the political atmosphere that has undergone in that country under the leadership of President Pervez Musharraf.
