India have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate in their six-wicket World Cup final win over Sri Lanka, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Sunday. India, who fielded first after losing the toss at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday, were found to have been just one
over short of the target for bowling its overs by match referee Jeff Crowe, the former New Zealand captain, at the end of the fixture when time allowances were taken into consideration.

Under ICC rules that meant Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India's captain who made a man-of-the-match winning 91 not out, was fined 20 percent of his match fee in his role as skipper, while his players received 10 percent fines.

India accepted the penalties without contest, hardly surprising as players were rewarded with a bonus of $225,000 each from their delighted paymasters for winning the World Cup.
