If you have any grievance and want to meet the senior most officer of your area — say a deputy commissioner of police — to lodge a complaint, put on your jogging shoes and rush to the nearest Commonwealth Games venue or stadia.
Besides this, 40 per cent strength of all the police stations has
been put on Games duty. So if you want to get yourself heard, you will have to go that extra mile.
From Thursday onwards, most senior police officers who have been made venue commanders will shift into the Games venues and stadia and operate from there.
This virtually means that they will be off public contact for the next one month till the Games are over.
Even the personal staff of officers has been asked to report at the Games venue with all the files and folders that need clearance.
"Most of the officers have already shifted base and are working from the venues and stadia. All this is aimed at getting them familiar with the deployed man power including paramilitary staff at the venues,” said a senior police officer.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium — the venue for the opening and closing ceremony — has two venue commanders of the rank of additional commissioner of police. One officer is responsible for the internal premises and the other for the outer periphery.
There are 13 competition venues and five training venues, all of these have a separate venue commander.
Delhi Police was scheduled to take charge of all the venues and stadias by September 15 for the complete security “lockdown”, which has not been possible as construction work is still on.
“We have already had partial lockdown. Accredited and identified people are only allowed to enter the stadia. Besides this, the anti sabotage checks are already on,” said Y.S. Dadwal, commissioner of police.
For the security during the Games, outside forces including the National Security Guards (NSG) commandos have also been brought in, the police said.
Mock drills are being conducted almost every three hours at all the venues to familiarise them with any sort of contingency plans and routes.
