Ram Gopal Varma might still be facing the flak for the terror tour to Taj and Oberoi, but a lot of filmmakers are already queuing up to book movie titles related to the Mumbai terror attacks.
Confirming the rush, Anil Nagrath, secretary, Indian Motion Pictures Producer's Association
(IMPPA) said, “It’s a common practice. Be it a natural calamity or a man-made disaster, if it has had some impact, filmmakers get enticed by it. The terror attacks on 26/11 have stirred souls across the nation. There is certainly a compelling story to be told. Filmmakers have realised it too.”
IMPPA further revealed that over 10 filmmakers have registered more than 40 titles already. As per rules, these films have to be made within 3 years, or else the filmmaker loses the rights to the title.
We asked renowned filmmakers for their views and most said that it's too early to make a film on 26/11. “Let the wounds be healed first. Making a film right now would be intrusive on people's grief,” said Pritish Nandy of PNC. However, he admitted that he may want to do so after a few years. "I am not saying we’ll never look into it, but only after some authentic reports have been declared.”
Filmmakers like Abbas Tyrewala, Anurag Basu and Anurag Kashyap too agreed they would wish to touch this subject but only after some time. “I have grown up in the city. I feel for it. As a filmmaker I would want to bring its plight on screen. But it’s too early right now,” said Tyrewala.
