You would expect more grumpy faces than cheerful ones in the Kolkata Knight Riders camp. So you’re naturally taken aback when someone comes across brimming with enthusiasm and a huge smile. But then David Hussey has just joined the team and the sullenness that comes with repeated failures
hasn’t rubbed off on him as yet. Not being a part of the team when it stumbled from one defeat to another has left him a bit more optimistic than the others in the side as he still finds a ray of hope in an otherwise dismal scenario for the team.

“We have nothing to lose from here on. So you will see a completely different team in the last five games. We have, of course, not done well, but we could definitely spoil the party of some big boys,” said Hussey.

But didn’t he have second thoughts about joining the team when there was little left to achieve?

“Absolutely not. I have been following their matches on television and I always wanted to join them. Yes, we haven’t played as well as we would have liked to, but we could still go out and win a couple of matches,” he said.

The Australian doesn’t see motivation (or the lack of it) as a problem even after being pushed to the point of no return. “It’s somewhat tough to pick up yourself after continuous defeats. But then winning a game is enough motivation for me.”

Hussey also tried to make light of the abysmal showings of the team, saying that they lost quite a few close matches which could have gone either way. “I think the team has failed to capitalise on crucial moments. Had they handled it well, we could have been in different position.”

The Australian also had a word of sympathy for Shah Rukh Khan who’s obviously upset with team’s performance. “He is a nice man. And if he is upset, it’s fair enough. We haven’t played as well as we would have liked, but we are going to put it all behind us in the last five games.”
