India had scored 169 for one when Rahul Dravid got a harsh leg before decision. It could be argued if the ball would have gone on to hit the leg stump but the implementation of a referral system could make things easier for umpires.
The system was to be used for the ongoing Test series
but the International Cricket Council decided against it due to administrative problems.
Though India coach Gary Kirsten did not comment on Thursday’s decision, he accepted the system was a good option. “We tried that in Sri Lanka last time. There have been some problems and they need to be ironed out before implementing it.”
Mahela Jayawardene endorsed its implementation and said, “there are certain areas where you can always improve.”
