Sachin Tendulkar has been rested while Rohit Sharma has been recalled for the tri-series cricket tournament in Bangladesh starting January 4. Leg spinner Amit Mishra and pacer Ashok Dinda were also included in the 16-member squad while pacers Ishant Sharma, Praveen Kumar and left arm
spinner Pragyan Ojha were left out.

Mishra has been out of favour after a lacklustre performance in the first Test against Sri Lanka at Ahmedabad. Dinda made his Twenty20 debut earlier this month.

"Tendulkar asked for rest for the tri-series at Bangladesh. He will play the Tests against Bangladesh," Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement on Friday.

Yuvraj Singh, who did not play the Kolkata ODI against Sri Lanka due to a finger injury, has been included in the squad.

Speedster S. Sreesanth, who was down with swine flu in the ODI series against Sri Lanka after making an impressive return in the Test series, has recovered and finds a place. Pacer Sudeep Tyagi has retained his place while Dinesh Karthik has been named as the second wicketkeeper.

India will play their first match in the tri-series against Sri Lanka on January 5.

The selectors also named the squad for the final ODI against Sri Lanka to be played here Sunday. Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who missed the last two matches due to a ban over slow over-rates, will return. India have taken an unbeatable 3-1 lead in the five-match series.

Squad for the tri-series: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (captain), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Yuvraj Singh, Sudeep Tyagi, Dinesh Karthik, Sreesanth, Ashok Dinda, Amit Mishra.
