A 26-year-old Indian student was critically stabbed in the London borough of Newham on Friday night and 11 people were arrested in connection, Scotland Yard said on Saturday.
This is the fourth attack on Indians in the last two months. The earlier three incidents were
fatal.

“The man, in his 20s, has been admitted in Newham General Hospital after suffering stab wounds. He is in a critical condition,” the Yard said.

“Officers believe the man sustained his injuries at an address in Kent Street, E13. Eleven people have been arrested. Four remain in custody. The other seven have been bailed until future dates,” it added.

In Delhi, external affairs minister SM Krishna spoke to acting high commissioner Rajesh Prasad and to Andhra Pradesh-based businessman Sudhakar Reddy, father of the student, Praveen, assuring him of all help, sources said.

A quarrel between two groups of students from Andhra is believed to have led to the attack. Praveen is pursuing an MBA at a business school. Official sources in New Delhi said that high commission officials in the UK were coordinating with the doctors treating Praveen, and MEA officials in Delhi will take up the matter with the British high commission to ensure expeditious issuance of the visa to his parents. On December 26, Anuj Bidve, 23, of Pune was shot dead in Salford in a possible hate crime.
