The Andhra Pradesh government today conceded a demand for discussion on the contentious Telangana issue in the Assembly, but rejected a plea for moving a resolution seeking creation of a separate state.
Chief Minister K Rosaiah, who took part in the Business Advisory Committee meeting of
the state Assembly here today, said passing a resolution on the statehood issue was not within the purview of the state government.
The Telangana Rashtra Samiti has demanded that a resolution be adopted by the legislature seeking grant of statehood for Telangana.
Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu said his party was ready to support the resolution on Telangana. While the BJP, Praja Rajyam Party and CPI too were in favour of a resolution.
However, the government turned down their plea, sources who attended the BAC meeting, chaired by Speaker N Kiran Kumar Reddy, said.
The BAC agreed to take up a short-duration discussion on the mining issue in the state with particular reference to the alleged illegal mining of iron ore by Obulapuram Mining Company owned by Karnataka Tourism Minister Gali Janardhana Reddy.
The House will also take up discussions on the floods and drought that hit the state.
