In one of the most bizarre accidents in Indian aviation history, an Air Asia employee apparently died of shock at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) after her right hand got trapped in an aerobridge as it was being retracted. “She immediately collapsed out of shock and
was rushed to Apollo Medical Centre at the airport,” an airport press release said. The doctors tried their best to revive her but failed.

The airport police have registered a case of death due to negligence based on a complaint by the airport manager. “We have booked a case and will probe all aspects, including possible negligence,” Inspector R Sanjay Kumar told HT.

Amrita Roy (24), a guest services officer of the airline and a Kolkata native, was returning to the main building of the airport at around 9.50 am after ensuring all passengers on the Hyderabad-Kuala Lumpur flight had boarded the aircraft when the accident occurred.

Airport authorities have also ordered an enquiry. “The committee will be headed by the deputy CEO and comprise top officials of Delhi and Hyderabad airports,” said P Sripathy, CEO of RGIA. “The incident is most unexpected in nature and very unfortunate,” he added.
