Goa police on Thursday suspended police sub-inspector Nerlon Albuquerque for alleged laxity in investigating the case of British teenager Scarlette Eden Keeling, who was found dead on Goa's popular Anjuna beach.

Albuquerque, attached to Anjuna police station, had been accused of mishandling
the case.

The PSI had received the first blow on March 11 when senior officials had withdrawn all his powers.

Prior to that, the case was shifted from him to a senior police inspector Braz Menezes.

This is for the second time that Albuquerque is facing suspension. In 2005, he came under the scanner for allegedly trying to show a murder as suicide.

Senior police officials said there have been enough allegations against Albuquerque.

Earlier, Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat had said that action would be taken against erring police officers.
