A search operation was launched in Kupwara district of north Kashmir after security forces found two hand grenades and a wireless set near the LoC indicating movement of militants from across the border, official sources said on Tuesday. A joint patrol of Army and BSF on Monday
recovered two hand grenades, a wireless set, four wire cutters and 26 pencil cells near the Line of Control (LoC) at Surnal Malie in Keran sector of the district, 165 kms from Srinagar, the sources said.

They said all formations along the LoC were alerted and a search operation was launched in the area to track down the militants, who could have infiltrated from across the border.

"There is also possibility that the militants might have fled back after noticing the movement of the security forces," the sources said.

However, they said the operation was launched to neutralise the militants on the borders before they sneak into the valley.

They said the search parties have been fanned in different directions to ensure that militants are not hiding in the woods.
