Strongly criticising the BJP government in Karnataka for its failure to control communal violence, the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) today submitted its report to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). Holding Bajrang Dal responsible for the attacks on Churches in Dakshina Kannada,
Udupi, Chikmagalur, Mangalore and other areas of Karnataka, the NCM report sought legal action against the outfit.

The three-member NCM team led by its Chairman Md Shafi Qureshi had earlier toured the violence-affected areas of the state in the aftermath of attacks on churches and Christian prayer halls there recently.

The report also took strong note of the bashing up of over two dozen Christian women in Mangalore by male cops and sought action against the erring police officials.

The Commission has noted that had the state officials performed their normal duties, the situation could not have been that bad.

It also sought to dismiss the idea that forced conversions led to clashes advanced by a section of people.

The state government could not produce a single complaint of forced conversion when the NCM sought details of any such complaint received in the state in the last one year, the report said.

The Commission has also recommended a number of confidence building measures to be undertaken by the state government to diffuse tension in the violence-hit areas.
