By flying the maximum number ofkites at a single gathering, a group of more than 1200 people, including children, have created a new record in the Limca Book.

Held in Kolkata on Sunday at the sprawling Maidan in the heart of the city, the event's organisers A2Z Events Promotion
Entertainment, said they have got a confirmation on Monday from the authorities of the Limca Book regarding their entry.

Madan Mitra, minister of state for sports and transport, who was present at the event to promote kite flying, went down memory lane and recalled how he had flown kites during childhood and loved it.

"Kite flying is the best outdoor activity. Besides, whenever you see a kite, people instantly appreciate it because a kite, in many ways, represents life. If your roots are strong, you can reach any height," he said.

"Kite flying can be an excellent diversion, especially for children who can learn life's lessons from it as they observe the kite trying to catch the wind, fly upward, fall and rise and soar into the sky," Zawed Ali of the organisers said.
