A number of deserted training camps and a bunker of Maoists were unearthed during joint anti-Naxal operations by West Bengal and Jharkhand armed police in forested areas on the border.
The camps were found in Belpahari in West Bengal and East Singhbhum district in Jharkhand in the last
two to three days, WB IGP (Law and Order) S Karpurakayastha told PTI on Thursday.
"No arms or explosives were recovered from the camps."
Refusing to describe the operations carried out by armed police of the two states in coordination with CRPF as 'Greenhunt', the IGP said "this is part of the intensified move to flush out the Maoists."
The operations, he said, have been suspended for the day and would resume very shortly.
He said the joint forces were successful in area domination and in building up confidence among villagers on the border of the two states during the operations.
Meanwhile, Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen said six companies of central forces, in addition to the 18 in the state, arrived yesterday for posting in Maoist-hit West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia districts.
The West Bengal government, Sen said would send a report on Maoist activities in the state to the Union Home Ministry.
Chief Secretary Asok Mohan Chakraborty said security in state secretariat, Writers' Buildings, was being reviewed by
the Home Secretary and Kolkata Police Commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakraborty.
"Security in Raj Bhavan, New Secretariat and the Assembly house will also be reviewed," he said.
