Ram Setu: Good politics, bad economics (September 18) is disturbing. If the government took the investment decision without a thorough and objective appraisal, it must have been done under the influence of interested parties. Instead of expecting the judiciary to resolve the
techno-economic issue, the government must first get this report properly appraised by unbiased and experienced people.

Should we go to the registrar of births and deaths for confirmation of Lord Ram’s existence? Ram lives in the hearts of millions of Indians and any attempt to recreate history is ridiculous. Unfortunately, secularism in India has not graduated beyond appeasement of minorities. If some silly government official questions the existence of Jesus Christ or Mohd. Nabi on similar lines, the law and order machinery would have broken down by now.

Changing definitions
The US government claims it invaded Iraq to liberate its people and bring democracy to them by ousting Saddam Hussein. But it supports General Musharraf, another dictator, as its ally. When Musharraf deported Nawaz Sharif after his return to Pakistan, the US refused to comment on it calling it an internal matter. The US should remember that every schoolyard bully gets his own back and this is what it is facing in Iraq.
