Ten people, including six police personnel, were injured during continuing communal clashes in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh on Friday. The violence spread to the city’s Sanjay Nagar and Subhash Nagar areas on Friday. A mob set ablaze trucks, cars, buses and shops near Chaupala on the
Bareilly-Badaun highway. Firing was reported between two groups in the market. The police lobbed tear gas shells and later opened fire to disperse the mobs.

Additional Director General (Law and Order) of Police Brij Lal said the police fired rubber bullets, and three people were injured. SP (city) Rakesh Jolly was reportedly injured in brick-batting.

Violence erupted on Thursday after the release of Maulana Tauqir Raza Khan, the president of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (Jadid) who was arrested on Monday.

Groups of Hindus, who defied the curfew and came out on the streets to protest his release, reportedly clashed with the Maulana’s Muslim supporters on Thursday. Ten people were taken into custody on Friday.
