Slain PWD engineer Manoj Kumar Gupta's family on Thursday refused to take the Rs 5 lakh compensation announced by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati. Gupta was allegedly killed by Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Shekhar Tiwari and his supporters for refusing to pay money for Mayawati’s birthday.

“We don’t want compensation from the government. We only want justice and strict action against those who killed my father," Pratish gupta, Manoj Gupta's son told reporters.

Pratish, who performed his father's last rites at Lakhimpur kheri district on Thursday, said at the moment his family wants justice and not money.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav has accused Mayawati of turning her official residence into a “goonda recruitment agency”. Yadav reiterated the demand for a CBI probe into the incident.

Since Mayawati has given a clean chit to the BSP MLA Shekhar Tiwari there is no hope for an impartial inquiry, Yadav said. “Under these circumstances, who will dare to go against the statement of the chief minister,” he said.
