Anna Hazare breaks his four-day fast with a drink of lime water at the conclusion his 'fast unto death' against corruption in New Delhi.
Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare on Thursday said some political and criminal forces were afraid of the anti-corruption Lokpal Bill following the massive support the campaign for this legislation has received.
“Some political and criminal forces are afraid of recent awakening and
huge support of the common man to the Jan lokpal bill. They are trying to create confusion and defame the movement,” he said.
Hazare-led India Against Corruption (IAC) also claimed to have resolved the differences with social activist and dancer Mallika Sarabhai, who had gone public with her criticism of the veteran Gandhian for having praised the Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.
“Our fellow supporter and renowned social activist Mallika Sarabhai has reaffirmed her faith in the campaign and in a reply to Anna Hazare she has said that since Anna has clarified the position on Gujarat, the issue is over,” the IAC said.
The IAC has also warned against a misinformation campaign against the organisation and particularly its five members on the joint drafting committee of the lokpal bill.
“One way for them to create dissent is by spreading disinformation and raking up issues that will distract attention away from the real fight against corruption to individuals and extraneous matters,” the statement said.
The five members — Anna Hazare, former law minister Shanti Bhushan, Justice Santosh Hegde, renowned senior Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan and Arvind Kejriwal will declare their assets on Friday.
The development follows demands by various political parties and NGOs for them to make their wealth details public. In a related development, the IAC made public its account statement on the ongoing campaign.
It put the donations received at around Rs. 83 lakh and the expenditure incurred at nearly Rs. 33 lakh.
“The balance with us is Rs. 50,17,768,” the statement added.
