Bangladesh Rifles is mobilising personnel along the border in Meghalaya's Muktapur area, a day after heavy firing was reported between the border guards of the two countries. Villages along the border in Bangladesh have been evacuated and armed personnel have been reinforced in the areas,
sources in the BSF monitoring the developments said.

They said that a militia armed with bows and arrows was also seen moving close to the border on the other side.

Over 1000 rounds were traded for over three hours by the two border forces on Sunday evening.

Yesterday's firing, which took place for the fourth time since February 4, was the heaviest.

Bullets marks were visible in houses at Muktapur as the villagers moved to safer places.

Schools in the area remained closed on Monday.

They had opened only last Wednesday following closure after the three incidents of firing since last month.
