So far so good: Soha Ali Khan will next be seen in Sudhir Mishra's Khoya Khoya Chand.
Soha Ali Khan talks to Madhusree Chatterjee about her latest film

Tell us a bit about your character in Khoya Khoya Chand?
I play Nikhat in Khoya Khoya Chand, a romance set between 1953-1965. It is a complete author-backed role and for
a female actor in 2007, that's quite something. It is the story of an actress minus greasepaints her personal life, love, trauma, and industry scandals.

I get to do it all and much more, like horse riding, sword-fighting, apart from the usual song and dance. This is a very unusual Sudhir Mishra film because it's romantic and positive.

Your favourite director..
I love to watch almost every thing - be it trash, or serious films like that of Akira Kuro sawa's and the modern ones by Quentin Tarantino. But I find Rakeysh Mehra, Rituparno Ghosh and Sudhir Mishra inspiring because they have very strong and passionate women in the lead.

Which Sharmila Tagore film do you like most?
My favourites have been Chupke Chupke and Mausam. The rest of them are tragedies, where my mother ended up either dead or distraught. They are so difficult to watch.

What is it that you envy about your mother?
"I am very sincere and quite ambitious. But most of all, I want to leave a mark, enjoy life and remain active."
The fact that she got to work with Satyajit Ray. She had such wonderful movies like Apur Sansar, Devi, Nayak, Aranyaer Din Ratri... I have watched them all.

What are your future projects?
There is Mumbai Meri Jaan by Nishikant Kamath, slated for release this February. It is set in the aftermath of Mumbai train blasts. I play a journalist in the film.

Apart from this, I have just completed yet another Sudhir Mishra movie, Tera Kya Hoga Johnny. It's a dark comedy about the Mumbai underworld. I am also acting in a horror film. It's a psychological horror and close to my heart, because I love thrillers.

So what kind of a person are you?
I am very sincere and quite ambitious. But most of all, I want to leave a mark, enjoy life and remain active. I love watching cricket and play a lot of racket games like tennis and badminton. I was the youngest child and grew up protected. And that's what made me the person I am.
