Madhur Bhandarkar who is known for making films with realistic angle, has also touched upon the issue of homosexuality in two of his films - Fashion and Page 3. Both the films fared well at the box-office.
Arjan Bajwa, who played the role of Arzaan Contractor, the adversary of Abhishek Bachchan in
Guru and also acted in
Summer 2007, is hoping to make a mark with the release of the much talked-about film
Fashion.
How did you get the film
Fashion?Fashion happened for a good reason and will surely elevate my career, though it came at a very wrong time, as I lost my father last October. I got the offer when I was in Delhi so Madhur Bhandarkar waited for a month, then I met him and got the role.
Did your role in Guru and Summer 2007 made Madhur Bhandarkar cast you for the role? Not only these two, I have been doing film in south as well. I have completed six films there and two more to go. Though I have not done quantity of work but I guess my quality of work has made Madhur
ji to cast me as a lead for
Fashion.
You wanted to become a pilot, graduated in architecture, also did modelling...I have nicely laminated my degree for my parents, to flaunt. From the beginning I was very sure that I don’t want to get into fashion modelling, and if I am a part of this glamorous world then I wanted to be on the silver screen.
Do you think you will be able to make a mark with Fashion?I am confident that my character in
Fashion is well-defined. Moreover I am playing the lead, which is more than enough to fetch the limelight.
Tell us about your role?I am playing a boy who aspires to become a fashion model and is in a living-in relationship with Priyanka Chopra. My character is someone who doesn’t compromise and achieves success in his own way.
What’s the controversy around your steamy scenes with Priyanka that got censor board’s objection? They are over-hyped. The scenes are aesthetically very well done. Madhur Sir is quite a pro in showcasing his vision. But if the censor does not like it it’s okay, they have a right to chop it.
How easy or difficult was it to perform such scenes?
I was feeling jittery, but Priyanka made me comfortable and easy.
How is Priyanka as a co-star?I have sent her a message on the last day of shoot to which she replied saying ‘you made my day’. I wrote to her that I have worked with actors of ‘big stature’ in the film industry but she is one girl whom I have come across, whose most humble, down to earth equally talented, very friendly, supportive and concerned.
What are your upcoming projects?I would be working with Dr Chandra Prakash Diwedi on a mega period film and I am in talks with a big director for his forthcoming venture. Also I am doing two films in south one with Nagarjuna and other with Genelia. Once
Fashion releases then I guess the response would get me more film offers.
