Shake it daddy…, but now, DJ Aqeel is no longer interested in Bollywood chart-toppers. Aqeel, whose latest album, Forever, released about three weeks ago, insists that Bollywood doesn’t work with the Mumbai crowd.
Really? “Yes, the city likes house, hip hop and only a teeny weeny bit of Hindi music. Bollywood doesn’t work with this lot and I should know,” he asserts. He adds that his club, Hype, in Worli, rarely plays Bolywood music. “We mostly play house music,” he says.
Considering Aqeel started out in the world’s largest film industry, why the sudden aversion to it? “It’s boring, man!” he complains. “These guys want fast music and there are just too many limitations.”
