AN 18-YEAR-OLD was dragged out of his car and assaulted severely with a baseball bat by two men following a road skirmish, according to the police. The assailants — though identified — have not been arrested so far. The assault occurred on Sunday in west Delhi’s Vikaspuri when Akshay
Mehta and elder sister Akanksha were on way to their grandparents’ house.

Akanksha, 21, said not one from the many onlookers on the busy road came forward to save her brother as he was being beaten up.

Recounting the incident, Akanksha said she was driving on a narrow stretch when a car from the opposite direction hit her car. “Their car blocked our way and hit us head on. When I asked them to make way, they used vulgar language and thrashed my brother and smashed the windscreen with a baseball bat,” she said.

The ordeal did not end there. The two men followed Akanksha to a nursing home where she had taken her profusely bleeding brother. They rammed their car into Akanksha’s parked car several times before it was badly damaged.

“They kept hitting our car with theirs and all this happened in broad daylight,” said Akanksha, a student of a Ghaziabad dental college. Again, none of the onlookers came to their rescue, she added.

The police identified the two assailants as Abhijit Singh of Vikaspuri and his friend Vinay. The police have impounded their car but the accused are absconding. “We managed to impound the car and traced the address of the accused but could not find him at home. The search for them is on,” said a senior police officer.

A case of attempt to culpable homicide not amounting to murder, criminal intimidation, outraging the modesty of a woman along with other appropriate sections has been registered against the accused.

Doctors attending on Akshay said his condition was stable.
