3000 detained in capital for creating trouble on Holi

Around 3,000 people were detained for creating trouble during Holi in the city while over 5,300 motorists were challaned for violating traffic regulations. The festivity passed off peacefully though minor incidents were reported from some areas of the capital. Senior officials patrolled
the city throughout the day ensuring that nothing untoward took place during the celebrations.

Around 40,000 policemen were on the streets yesterday keeping a close watch on Holi revellers.

"We have detained about 3,000 people who created problems during the festivity. Thirty others were arrested under preventive detention clause," Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said on Thursday.

An intensive traffic drive was also carried out by police yesterday in which a total of 5,354 challans were issued to those who violated traffic rules while celebrating the festival of colours. The drive was conducted between 9:30 a.M. and 3:30 pm And 6 pm And 8 pm.

This year's figure is a sort of record for Delhi Police as it is a two-time jump over last year's statistics. Last year, Delhi Police had challaned over 2,100 people on Holi.
