BJP on Monday condemned the attack on Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi by MNS in the Maharashtra assembly for taking oath in Hindi and also sought an explanation from Congress and NCP for tacitly supporting the Raj Thackeray-led party in the past. "BJP strongly condemns this attack on
democracy but Congress and NCP owe an explanation because their tacit support has built up MNS to what it is today. They have created a monster just for political purpose -- to divide opposition votes," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.

Javadekar is Rajya Sabha MP from Maharashtra.

Azmi was heckled in the Maharashtra assembly by MNS MLAs for taking oath in Hindi. The MNS had stated earlier that all MLAs should take oath in Marathi to uphold the Maratha pride.

MNS has 13 MLAs. Azmi is the lone SP MLA in the House.

Four MNS MLAs were suspended for four years after the incident.
