Want to take a bus to your next destination? Soon instead of waiting at the bus stop you would be able to get information about the timings just by sending an SMS. The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), which is in a makeover mode would soon be be equipped with Global Positioning System
facility to be built through a public-private partnership.

"The GPS facility will help commuters know about the arrival and departure of the buses well in advance. The facility would also enable the commuter to know the scheduled and expected time of the arrival of the buses," senior DTC official, Swatantra Dua, told PTI.

Citing advantages of the GPS system, she said, the new facility will be of great help to commuters. The facility under 'Passenger Information System' will provide all possible help to the daily-goers.

"Besides, displaying the arrival time of a bus, anyone can send an SMS to know about the arrival or any other query about the state-run buses," Dua added.

The facility will also be of great help in case of any emergency. In case of any accident or break down the driver of the bus can inform the control room in a fraction of a second with the help of GPS facility, she added.
