Anticipating another political row, the UPA government, in a last-minute move, postponed the introduction of the Civil Liability or Nuclear Damage Bill in the Lok Sabha on Monday. The Bill, which will allow American firms to do business in India, fixes the liability of a nuclear mishap
on the Indian operator and the government; foreign supplier firms have no liability. Both the Left and the BJP have declared their intentions to block the Bill’s passage.

Indications are that the Bill will be introduced when Parliament re-convenes in April, by then the UPA hopes to address Opposition concerns.
