Congress on Wednesday demanded an immediate ban on Bajrang Dal, alleging that the organisation was involved in arson, loot and violence all over the country ever since it was formed in 1984. "We demand an immediate ban. The organisation is involved in arson, loot and violence and
spreading communal hatred," Congress spokesman Manish Tewari told reporters in New Delhi.

Tewari claimed instances like demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992, violence against Christians at Dang in Gujarat, Graham Staines murder, and the recent attacks in Orissa and Karnataka were reasons enough to support the new position of the Congress.

Asked whether Bajrang Dal is a terrorist organisation, Tewari said, "I am not calling it a terrorist organisation but it fills the bill under the Prevention of Unlawful Activities Act."

On a question whether the NDA government in various parts of the country would implement the ban if it was imposed, Tewari said the states are under obligation to act.
