Furious over the depiction of Kangana Ranaut’s character in Madhur Bhandarkar’s yet to release film ‘Fashion’, the Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) has sent the chairperson of Central Board of Film, Sharmila Tagore, a letter seeking a ban on the film.

The DCW alleges that the character is based on former model Geetanjali Nagpal, who came into limelight last year when she was found begging on the streets of Delhi, after falling prey to drug abuse and alcohol addiction.

“We have heard through news websites that the character is based on Geetanjali Nagpal. We feel that wrongful portrayal of her character will take her to relive her traumatic past, and affect her physical and mental well being adversely. We therefore request Madhur Bhandarkar to screen the movie before us and seek our approval before the film’s public release,” said Barkha Singh, Chairperson, DCW.

In the movie, the character is shown lost on a pavement amidst crowds of people walking by.
