Dense fog engulfed the capital on Wednesday resulting in delays to over 20 flights. Visibility was reduced to less than 100 metres.

"Twenty two flights to and from Delhi have been delayed due to the reduced visibility," an airport official said.

The dense fog in Delhi was a result
of "no wind", said a weather official.  "There is no wind, otherwise there is no unusual phenomenon," an India Meteorological Department official said. The weatherman added that the fog blanket is unlikely to lift completely by noon.

"We were expecting winds to flow which would have eased the fog. But with no wind the fog has become denser," the Met official said.

On Tuesday, a shallow fog disrupted rail services with 34 trains being cancelled because of poor visibility. The fog also resulted in flight disruptions at the airport Tuesday.
