The Delhi High Court on Monday directed the city government to submit a list of private schools, which were given land at concessional rate but had failed to provide free education to children from economically-weaker sections of the society.

Sanjeev Khanna also asked all such private schools to give wide publicity to the percentage of freeship in their schools through newspapers and other mediums to make public aware of the facility.
The court was hearing a PIL filed by an NGO Social Jurist through its counsel Ashok Aggarwal, seeking direction to the NCT Government to take appropriate action against the schools for violating the lease condition of providing free education to children from economically-poor sections.
There are 381 schools that were given land at concessional rate but only 250 of them have filed affidavit stating that they would provide reservation for weaker section in admission, the petitioner said.
Earlier, the Bench had directed private schools to implement 15 per cent freeship from the next academic session on a trial basis.
