On instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Delhi Police have come up with an immediate package of “benefits” for the wife and children of Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma. The Delhi Police have announced a package amounting to Rs. 30 lakh in addition to the pension that Sharma’s family
can claim for life. Besides a job for Sharma’s wife, the package includes ex gratia payment, payments towards gratuity, leave encashment, insurance, provident fund deposits, policemen’s welfare schemes, and government schemes for victims of terror attacks.

“Fighting militants is a part of the job we signed up for, but seeing the government going all out in Mohan Sharma’s case does make me feel more secure about how my family will be treated if something happens to me,” said a Delhi Police inspector, who did not want to be quoted as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

A Home Ministry official said “the Home Minister was very keen that policemen across the country be made aware that the government is conscious that they face death every day.

Road to named after Sharma

The MCD will name the under-construction Pankha Road-Dabri Crossing flyover after Mohan Chand Sharma. “The flyover will be named after Sharma so that future generations take inspiration from his martyrdom,” Mayor Arti Mehra said. The civic body will also donate Rs. five lakh to Sharma’s family.
